Fremantle Press poets fly in for two short appearances at Planet Books and the ASAL conference

June 13, 2019

Join award-winning authors Caitlin Maling and Nandi Chinna for two big nights as they celebrate the release of their new poetry collections Fish Song and The Future Keepers.

In a rare confluence of poetic genius, Caitlin will fly in from Sydney, and Nandi will be down from Fitzroy Crossing for a gig at Planet Books Northbridge, and they will be joined by Dennis Haskell at the Association for the Study of Australian Literature (ASAL) Conference hosted by the University of Western Australia.

Caitlin’s new collection Fish Song explores physical landscapes as well as historical and socio-cultural aspects of place. In this deeply personal work, she travels the coast of Western Australia, writing about what the ocean provides and questions what poetry might offer by way of solace and reconnection in an age of climate change.

Nandi’s The Future Keepers articulates the relatedness of humans to place, speaking to the gifts we receive from being open to encounters with other species, and the reciprocity that those gifts imply. Her work was written during a bitter and draining battle between activists and the State Government of Western Australia over the future of the Beeliar Wetlands, and traverses time and territory, examining intergenerational inheritance and contemplating what we might leave for future generations.

All are welcome to enjoy a lovely evening with our poets at Planet Books. After an introduction and readings, you’ll get a chance to mingle with and meet the authors, as well as to buy copies of their books and get them signed.
