Hungerford Award goes online

December 20, 2017

We are pleased to announce that submissions for the 2018 City of Fremantle T.A.G. Hungerford Award will open on Friday 2 February and close on Friday 16 March 2018.

Western Australia’s longest running and most prestigious award for an unpublished manuscript offers a cash prize of $12,000 from the City of Fremantle and a publishing contract with Fremantle Press. It is a biennial award that celebrates literary merit and originality, and is given for a full-length manuscript of fiction or narrative non-fiction by a Western Australian author previously unpublished in book form.

Fremantle Press publisher Georgia Richter said that for the first time in the award’s history, all submissions will be made electronically.

‘Entrants will be able to upload manuscripts and pay the entry fee online without having to print and deliver manuscripts to Fremantle Library,’ said Richter. ‘The new system is still anonymous and will be administered online by library employees who will only make the names of entrants available after a winner has been chosen.’

Entry will open on Friday 2 February at To help you start preparing your manuscript in the meantime, you can download the full terms and conditions here.

Fremantle Library, which is temporarily located at Fremantle Oval for the next couple of years, is offering assistance with the new process. If you require help submitting online, please contact Fremantle Library after Friday 2 February on (08) 9432 9766.
