Fremantle Press will implement a dedicated submissions period for receipt of all unsolicited manuscripts during summer 2010-2011. This means manuscripts will not be accepted between 17 December 2010 and 21 March 2011.
Manuscript Assessment Editor Wendy Jenkins said strong media coverage and the success of books such as Spinner, The Other Bears and 90 Packets of instant noodles seemed to have prompted an increase in the number of submissions.
“While the manuscripts box is never less than overflowing, there were several large surges in submissions during the year,” said Jenkins.
“This period of closure will allow us to provide a more focused and streamlined service, while undertaking a review of our current procedures,” said Jenkins.
The dedicated submissions period will be trialled for the next three years.
