New Edition Bookshop and Sally Morgan have teamed up to help raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. New Edition has pledged to donate to the foundation a percentage of all books sold at the launch of Morgan’s new book Sister Heart.
Sister Heart will be launched by Ambelin Kwaymullina. The verse novel, which is aimed at 10 to 15 year olds, has been described as a ‘personal and approachable conversation-starter about the Stolen Generations for mature young readers’ by Books+Publishing.
In an interview for Books+Publishing, Morgan said she’d had many conversations with teachers over the years about the best ways to discuss with children what happened to Aboriginal families, why the Stolen Generations happened and why it’s important that we talk about the difficult events of our history.
‘I am optimistic about Australia’s reconciliatory future, because I believe in the power of young people to engage with each other for the purpose of bringing about positive change,’ said Morgan.
Morgan is an Ambassador for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Sister Heart will be launched at 6 pm on Wednesday 5 August at New Edition Bookshop. Entry is free but places are limited and must be reserved in advance by contacting email@example.com or 9430 6331. Only those who RSVP will be allowed entry on the night.
