Critically acclaimed author Chris McLeod will launch Elsewhere in Success by Iris Lavell at Mattie Furphy House in Swanbourne on Saturday 9 February 2013.
Lavell, who is also the coordinator of the Book Length Project at the Fellowship of Australian Writers WA (FAWWA), said she was delighted to accept the offer of a launch venue from her local writing association.
‘The FAWWA has a history with regard to supporting writers, and I feel very lucky to be included under that umbrella,’ said Lavell.
‘I have always been able to work best when I am part of an artistic community, and spending time with other writers is a good way of sharing ideas and maintaining impetus,’ she said.
Elsewhere in Success tells the story of a baby boomer couple facing the challenge of leading an ‘ordinary’ life in the suburbs while dealing with the pain and violence of the past.
‘I would describe it as a love story between Harry and Louisa, an odd couple that … don’t seem to be connecting with one another in their suburban home, and in the end find a closeness that they didn’t have at the beginning,’ said Lavell.
Elsewhere in Success will be launched at 4.30pm on Saturday 9 February at Mattie Furphy House, Allen Park Heritage Precinct, Kirkwood Road, Swanbourne. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or 08 9430 6331
The Book Length Project Group is held on the third Sunday of each month at Mattie Furphy House. It provides an opportunity for people working on larger writing projects to network, to read and discuss their work, and to discuss the practicalities of all that goes with writing something of ‘book length’, and publication.
