Submit a Manuscript
Fremantle Press welcomes unsolicited manuscripts from authors of Western Australian origin or whose main place of residence is Western Australia. The only exception is in the case of non-fiction, where work by non-Western Australian writers will be considered if the subject matter has a strong Western Australian focus.
The initial assessment process takes a minimum of eight weeks. If a manuscript is recommended for further evaluation, it could take up to four months before a final decision is made. We receive over 600 manuscripts each year and the Press cannot provide individual feedback on submissions.
To assist in the assessment process, please use the following guidelines when submitting a manuscript or proposal:
- Manuscripts should be complete. The only exception is with research-based non-fiction where a detailed synopsis and two sample chapters is acceptable.
- Prose works, apart from works for children, should be at least 40,000 words while collections of poetry should be sufficient to make a book of about eighty pages. Individual short stories and poems cannot be considered.
- Manuscripts should be typed, page-numbered and printed on one side of A4 paper. Submissions via email or disc cannot be considered.
- Manuscripts should be accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed postage bag of an appropriate size for its return.
- Please DO NOT send original artwork or photographs. We prefer to receive photocopies of any illustrations in the first instance.
Submissions should be sent to:
