Festival fever

Fremantle Press authors clocked up their travel miles in September, attending regional writers’ festivals in Geraldton and Albany.

The launch of Natasha’s novel What is left over, after, was one of the best attended events of the Big Sky Writers’ Festival in Geraldton and sessions with A.J. Betts on ‘the Y Generation’ and with Natasha and A.J. on ‘the road to publication’ were keenly received.

Fremantle Press authors also featured strongly at the Sprung Writers Festival in Albany from 16-19 September.

Robert Drewe, whose collaboration with John Kinsella, Sand, will be published by Fremantle Press in November, spoke at the official Festival opening, before giving the keynote address on Saturday afternoon.

A.J. Betts dived straight into the action, getting out and about in schools on Friday, prior to the official opening. An early highlight of the Festival was Emmanuel Mollois, author of Et Voila, who hosted a long table lunch at the Orange Tractor Winery on Friday.

The ever-popular Jon Doust, local Albany resident, co-hosted an early Saturday morning session with Brenda Walker called ‘books worth getting up early for’.

Saturday also featured the launch of Ron Elliott’s Spinner, where a launch speech by local Albany identity “Scruffo” Jenkins piqued further interest in the book.
