Fremantle Poetry Month Schedule 2010

FREMANTLE ARTS CENTRE
Fremantle Press, in association with the Out of the Asylum Writers Group and WA Poets Inc, presents an evening of poetry and live music to launch Fremantle Poetry Month 2010. Featuring performances by Amber Fresh, Xave Brown, Janet Jackson, Kevin Gillam and Nandi Chinna. Fremantle Press will launch three new poetry collections with readings from The West by John Mateer, Burning Bright by Caroline Caddy, and New Poets by Scott-Patrick Mitchell, Emma Rooksby and J.P. Quinton, edited by Tracy Ryan. Admission is free.

MASTER CLASS (BY INVITATION ONLY) – SATURDAY 10 JULY

Talented new and emerging Western Australian poets join us at Fremantle Press for a poetry publishing master class. Presented by award-winning poet Tracy Ryan, Fremantle Press Poetry Editor Georgia Richter and award-winning poet and Fremantle Press Commissioning Editor Wendy Jenkins. Not open to the public.

MEET THE POET – 6.00PM THURSDAY 15 JULY
FREMANTLE LIBRARY
Spend an intimate evening with internationally acclaimed poet John Mateer and emerging poets Scott-Patrick Mitchell and J.P. Quinton. The evening includes readings and a Q&A session. Admission is free.

Who writes poetry these days? Aren’t poets just dead guys from the nineteenth century? There are talented local poets, young and old, reading, writing and publishing their poetry right now – and secondary students can meet them. Get stuck into writing poetry with local poets Caroline Caddy, Scott-Patrick Mitchell, A.J. Betts and J.P. Quinton. Admission is free. Places are limited.

PRACTICAL POETRY: A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR FOR ENGLISH TEACHERS – 4.30PM MONDAY 26 JULY
