Newman wins industry award

1st May 2010

Fremantle Press stalwart Clive Newman was recognised for his service to the publishing industry with a George Robertson Award in April.

Newman said he was taken completely by surprise.

“I couldn’t understand why there was so much pressure to attend this year’s AGM following which the awards are presented. In fact, I was getting quite narky about it,” said Newman.

Recipients of the award, which is presented by the Australian Publishers Association, come from all areas of the book industry but have each spent more than 30 years in the Australian book trade.

“It is nice to be recognised by peers within the industry but watch out because I’ve no plans to retire any time soon – despite having been in publishing for over 34 years,” said Newman.

Other recipients of the award included Wendy Sutherland, Robert Ungar, Anne O’Donovan, Rex Finch, John Morgan, Henry Rosenbloom, Ruth Siems, Debbie McInnes, Michelle Carlisle, Ian Webster and Janet McKenzie.
