- About the Book

This beautiful edition has a subtle focus on the poetry scene here in WA with the poems selected by guest editor Les Murray. This collection reflects Les Murray’s love of everything rural and Australian and yet there are moments of profound intimacy and deep appreciation for family.
The opening interview by Lucy Dougan with Premier Award winning poet Dennis Haskell, reveals as much about Australian life as it does the deep roots of his poetic inspiration. John Kinsella’s speech at the launch of The Weighing of the Heart: an anthology of WA emerging poets, articulates the vibrant poetic movement is now happening in WA.
This volume is also has a fabulous collection of short stories selected by freelance editor Janet Blagg. Stories in this collection by Annamaria Weldon, Rosie Barter and Mike Williams were broadcast by ABC National and Natasha Lester’s story ‘What is Left Over, After’ was drawn from her full length manuscript which won the 2009 TAG Hungerford Award and will be published by Fremantle Press. There is also a comprehensive review section of poetry publications by Tracy Ryan, Sarah French, Lucy Dougan and other West Australian poets.
