About the Book

Volume 5 is edited by Carmen Lawrence, Caroline Caddy and Ray Coffey.

This volume features an opening interview by Delys Bird with celebrated Western Australian author Tim Winton. In this in-depth interview, Winton discusses everything from the position of the novel in Australia today to the way that writing can be considered a trade. indigo volume 5 also contains an excerpt from the beautiful new work by two time Miles Franklin Award winner Alex Miller. Lovesong is a tender rumination on the intimate lives of ordinary people, their secret passions and weaknesses.

The short stories in this volume were selected by Ray Coffey and feature tales of the lives of men, and particularly the relationships between men and their fathers, and men and women. Carmen Lawrence has chosen personal essays that will take you all the way from outback Australia to Canada and Belgium, while award winning poet Caroline Caddy’s selection of poetry focuses as much on nature as it does on sex, death, and the big questions of life.

Finally, as always, indigo brings you reviews of some of Western Australia’s best new published writing, such as Nicola Redhouse’s review of Richard Rossiter’s Arrythmia: Stories of Desire and Goldie Goldbloom’s The Paperbark Shoe (published by Fremantle Press). Rose Michael reviews Vagabond Holes: David McComb and the Triffids, (published by Fremantle Press) and The West Australian’s William Yeoman checks out the new issues of four literary magazines including young Perth journal dotdotdash.
