Christine Watson

Christine Watson grew up in Castle Hill, Sydney. With a BA in history and European languages from Sydney University she joined the former Department of Aboriginal Affairs under the Whitlam government. Working with Aboriginal leaders widened her world, and convinced her that her best workplace lay outside the bureaucracy. She retrained in fine art, anthropology and museum studies at ANU and Sydney University, then worked as an art administrator and curator of Aboriginal Art for Boomalli Aboriginal Artists’ Cooperative and Coo-ee Aboriginal Art. Her encounter with Balgo art led her to undertake post-graduate study of Balgo women’s art. Piercing the Ground is the culmination of this physical and theoretical exploration.
