Cécile Dorward

Cecile Dorward was born Cecile Marguerite Gabrielle Schmidt. In 1932 she married Alan Dorward, a Professor of Philosophy, and for a decade travelled the waterways of England, living in a canal boat. At the same time she worked as a pioneer in the fledging occupational therapy profession. At fifty-eight she began touring the world solo in a campervan, travelling until she was eighty-four. She died in 2004.
