Jan Ryan
Jan Ryan’s interest in overseas Chinese and settler Chinese has led to extensive study and lecturing in China, Hong Kong, England and South Africa. Her work in South Africa explored the place of Chinese and Indian minorities in that country’s recent political and economic shifts. Her special interest in the history of Western Australia’s Chinese community led to her initiation of a collaborative project to establish a monument at the East Perth cemetery, commemorating the significant part played by Chinese pioneers in Western Australian history.
